It's my last day home today - back to work tomorrow for me and back to school for the LG. I'm feeling a lot better and got all productive today and ironed all the uniforms for the week!

The LG starts in his new classroom tomorrow. I hope he goes ok, moving classes half-way through the school year could be confusing.

Why can't things all be the same? Wouldn't it be easier??? Words can't describe my disgust at DVD country specific encoding, or that fact that no two photocopiers can ever work the same way; but the plethora of ways to play/rip/save music/view movies drives me batty.

Anyway my current problem -

The little guy has a new Ninetendo DSi and he wants to play music on it. The music has to be MP4a format. How do I convert my MP3 stuff to that? Do I need yet another conversion program?I looked on the net but nothing that made sense came up... Help me flisters - help me!

First thanks to all you wonderful flisters who replied to my last post. *big hugs* Instead of replying to you all, I'll give you an update here. Read more... )

I should say, for my American flisters, that when I say football - here in Queensland we mean Rugby League. We spent Friday and Saturday at a big football carnival. There were huge numbers of children there from all over the place - 56 teams this year. Apparently it's the biggest football carnival for kids in Australia. Our team did very well though they didn't make the finals. They won 5 games and drew 1 game and so did the team from our pool who made it to the finals. Since the other team drew with us and were the first to score, they went through & ours didn't.

Still all the kids got to be honour guard at the big NRL match that night and some from each team were to run in a relay at half time. While they were running I wa cheering, but not jumping up and down or anything - and suddenly I was hit with what felt like an explosion in my skull. Read more... )

I struck it lucky this week at the supermarket and got to the butcher's just when the meat got marked down. So roast lamb and veges last night for dinner and leftover roast lamb again tonight - yummmmmm.

Thank god for friends! As a single mum with little family close by, I rely on them a lot.

I'm thinking of signing up for Firefly Big Bang. But will I be able to do it? Positives and negatives abound!

It's a public holiday today and I'm supposedly catching up with housework; with intermittent Internet breaks. In reality I'm sitting here re-reading all my favourite Jaylee fics (instead of writing) while the little guy and his friend are out in the yard catching lizards. The poor things, the lizards I mean, have had a quite few weeks due to sports and school commitments. But today the hunt's back on!

And last, but not least...Why, if you post a graphics tutorial, do you direct everyone to your friendslocked journal? Why not make that post public? Hmmmmmmm?

To avoid the fool driving up the middle of the alley, I took a too sharp turn into the car park and hit the decorative post on the way in. My two month old ute (truck) now has the mother of all dents in the rear door and tray *sigh*. My insurance will pay, but I had to pay the $400 excess upfront to expedite matters; and there goes the visit from the electrician I was planning for.

Then when we got home - this morning the little guy got the dog his bone and didn't shut the freezer properly. When we got home 10 hours later a fair bit of the meat was defrosted. I cooked up most of it to use for the slow cooker; but we lost all the bread and the poor LG is feeling guilty.

Tomorrow will be better! *nods*

Why is Photobucket being annoying? Because it's Sunday morning and I have a whole hour of Littleguyless time and want to answer my meme post!!! I was going to do that quickly and then work on one of my stories which I actually had a bunny for. But my time is running out...

The Little guy is at the beach attempting to catch more fish. He was ecstatic yesterday when he caught a Barramundi. I wasn't so ecstatic when I followed him home and found the mess he made scaling and filleting it! But the fish is sooooooo yummy - I'll be off to the beach soon to cook it on the BBQ. He's invited folks to come eat it *sigh*.

Then it's off to a Tupperware party at my friends. I missed her last one so feel duty-bound to go to this one. The LG is freaking out cause he will miss a whole 3 hours of fishing *giggles*, but I'm not so sad - I have no freezer space left!

What is tax day? *is puzzled*

All the people signing up with Dreamwidth are you gonna post at LJ too? *wibbles and clutches flist*.

We saw 4 beautiful Jabirus yesterday on the way home and I didn't have my camera!

No-one has posted a drabble for our 5 year celebration at [livejournal.com profile] firefly100 :(

Why do people ask about chickens crossing the road? It should be turtles...

Dumb turtles who leave a perfectly good creek or waterhole to cross the road to another waterhole. Turtles who wait to cross the road so an 11 year old wildlife expert sees them and expects his mother to stop the car on a dime to pick them up. Turtles who stink to high heaven in the car and bite the hand that saves them.

I think I might need therapy :)

Here we are, the little guy, my niece and I, in Mooloolaba this week.

The LG has made it into the State Lifesaving Titles so we came down a few days early so he could practice in the big waves. Read more... )

The floods, cyclones and things are my excuse for falling behind with my [livejournal.com profile] serenity_santa duties. So this week I'm trying to catch up and finish it off. Those of you on my flist *meaningful look* who haven't finished your gift can you let me know if you're going to? This includes me of course, I've been slack with mine too...

On the upside; while on the plane my muse hit and I wrote a lot. Now cross your fingers that some of it actually translates to something I can post!

Actually it just feels like that...

It's still raining. We got another 180 something millimeters last night and now it's pouring again. The CEO actually rang me last night and told me not to come in, so I'm here at home with my mum and the LG. Our area is now in the middle of a big flood, the largest since 1977. But unlike floods and/or rain in cold countries, you don't get cold when you get wet! Here's some pics of the LG and his mate enjoying no school and the rain...

In Adelaide it was 45 degrees today (114 farenheit) and although it wasn't that hot here the humidity was at 91% and it's still raining. In this month alone our part of the country has had about 500 mm(35 inches approx)of rain. Of course this is playing havoc with the roads, and the little guy is angsting because the Surf Club branch titles are this weekend. Since the titles are at least 3 hours drive away along a very wet road, they may yet be cancelled. Last year I drove home from the very same titles with water up to the car doors and have no desire to repeat that :D

Christmas is fast approaching and I have done nothing!!!!! I bought some cute Australian type Christmas cards to send my flisters and now can't find them; and my mother is due for her annual visit on Wednesday and the house looks like a bomb hit it!

Now my mum doesn't expect spotless house-keeping from me ever. She knows her daughter well. But both she and I do have a level of cleanliness I aspire to. And I haven't met it!!!! God knows if I can squeeze in any cleaning these next few days either *sigh* and I want to have the sunroom clean before putting up the Christmas decorations...

Though, in happier thoughts - My mum is going to be here till March! *dances* Yes I know you think it's weird. A 46 year old still wanting her mum, but I love having her here and look forward to it every year. Usually she only comes for about 4 or 5 weeks, but this year is going to stay till we go down South for the State Titles for Surf Club.

There's nothing like being premature! We don't even know that the little guy, although everyone in the club assures me he will, will get into the Titles. On the basis of that, I've booked accommodation and bought airfares already. Cross your fingers for us!

I was watching the news this morning and saw all the fires in Southern California. Hope my flisters are ok???

I wasn't watching the news (sometimes I go weeks without watching much more than the 10.30pm sound bites) - the little guy was! At the age of 10 he's turned into a news junky. He actually watches back to back news broadcasts, which drives me insane :) Because of his news watching habits we are having some very in depth discussions about wars, elections and the economy. During the recent US elections he wanted to know if he could go and vote! Thank goodness his news watching is balanced by The Simpsons (yuck), every gardening/homemaker show known to man, animal documentaries and fishing shows! :D

I got my parcel and it's awesome! *bounces*

The little guy ate all the lollies (candies) in record time.

I've been wearing my earings and writing in the notebook (if only it would translate to the computer!). We love getting parcels so it made our week :DD

*hugs you tightly*

Today's the 1st of November! And I'm going to try and do my version of Nanowrimo and finish some of my WIPs. Wish me luck!!!!!

In the interests of saving petrol (and because it's usually too cold for me) I won't turn on the aircon in the car till it's 30 degrees (86) or over. Put the dog in the car and on goes the airconditioning!

We're actually home on a Saturday morning and what is the 10 year old little guy watching? Little kids shows like Miffy and Caiou (?). I thought I'd escaped them years ago. But what is really scary is I remember some of the episodes *shudders*.

The little guy participated in an inter-school tennis competition yesterday and despite me wearing 30+ sunblock, a hat and sitting in the shade I still got sunburnt. *sigh* I need to try better sunblock or go back to zinc which even though it stains all my clothes I never burn.

Today and tomorrow we've got our usual surf club committments. Which means a total of about 8 hours on the beach...
bookaddict43: (pyramids)
For my flisters with children :D !! I'm always looking for stuff for the LG to do and for fresh craft ideas for the story-telling crowd...

I use this site a lot for both work and home. Check out Crayola. But remember, because I'm a skinflint I never use the actual Crayola products!!!! A cutting knife and generic crayons, pencils and textas rule!
bookaddict43: (little guy)
Friday we drove the 6 hours (more or less) down to Mackay for the North Australian Titles. It's the first year the little guy is old enough to compete and he's been looking forward to it for the last 2 years at least...

Saturday saw us awake at 5.30 and down at the beach by 6.45 and the LG did well in his first two events; making the finals in both (finals Sunday). Unfortunately there was then a sighting of a crocodile in the area and all the water events were stopped. The LG's other beach event was moved up and he made the final again and got a sixth place. In total we were on the beach for twelve hours!!!!!!

Today, although the decision was made for the water events to go on, most (me among them) didn't allow their children back in the water so it was another 6 hours drive home again.

So we are both very tired tonight and not at all excited that tomorrow is back to school and work again...

Today is my day off- Lovely thought - and I had hoped to sit around catching up on the last 2 episodes of Chuck and I've left my USB at work!!!!!! *sniffs* Also the LG has invited god knows how many (actually 5) children around for a water bomb fight tomorrow, and the house needs cleaning! I don't want to clean the house *pouts*. I didn't want 5 children coming around either on our first Saturday home with no committments for weeks, but the plans had already been made! Much talking about parental rights ensued!! :D

We're off!

It's the first surf carnival of the season! Fortunately it's here at our beach so for once I don't have to travel. But we're still going to be busy! The little guy has (I think) five events today and five tommorrow and I'm supposed to be actually swimming in the surf race!

Wish us luck!
