Rambling and news

Here we are, the little guy, my niece and I, in Mooloolaba this week.
The LG has made it into the State Lifesaving Titles so we came down a few days early so he could practice in the big waves. Although he's very at home in the water; we don't have waves too often where we are, so I thought he'd better try it out. We've spent approximately 5 hours in the surf today and I don't think he's going to have any problems :)
I struck it lucky and picked a great place to stay. We're only 5 minutes walk from the beach, across the road from the shops and another 10 mins to Underwater World (for the LG). The only thing is...no Internet connection.
I bought one of those portable wireless thingies and it won't work! I followed all the instructions to the letter but to no success. It worked on and off for a bit last night and not at all tonight. So I'm piggy-backing on someone's unsecured wireless connection right now. Which makes me feel bad. But I need my fix :) The LG goes to sleep at 8.30 and night-owl me wants something to do...
The floods, cyclones and things are my excuse for falling behind with my
serenity_santa duties. So this week I'm trying to catch up and finish it off. Those of you on my flist *meaningful look* who haven't finished your gift can you let me know if you're going to? This includes me of course, I've been slack with mine too...
OMG you should have seen us trying to catch the plane! We were those people who are called over the PA system. 'Will so and so please come to gate 4 because your plane is about to take off'. All because the PTB decided to close the main road during rush hour!!! To make matters worse we had to check the Nipper Board at the oversize bag check-in which was, of course, at the other end of the terminal. By the time I'd run the length of the terminal twice and run all the way to the departure gate I was flustered to say the least. God bless the Air hostess who gave me a beautifully cold bottle of water at no charge.
On the upside; while on the plane my muse hit and I wrote a lot. Now cross your fingers that some of it actually translates to something I can post!

Date: 2009-03-07 11:42 am (UTC)The little guy and I belong to the local surf club part of Life saving Queensland (http://www.lifesaving.com.au/index.cfm) (kind of like Baywatch but without the schmaltz). I'm on the patrol roster and he learns to be a lifesaver (lifeguard). All the stuff he learns can be used in various competitions. This week is the State titles for all the kids from 11-14.
