The dog has now eaten through his cast! *head desk* I came home from the beach this afternoon and there he was, a big hole right through the bandage, fibreglass cast and down to the bone. It does not look good. It's Sunday, my usual vet's away and the other guy only opens up for snake-bite or something equally horrific. Of course there's nothing resembling a bandage in the house, so the little guy and I got creative. We've wrapped the cast in an old t-shirt and painted it with mosquito repellant, to stop him eating it again.

And tomorrow its back to the vet, am I glad I have pet insurance!

Is it warped that I have pet insurance and no formal health insurance? I'm sure it is. I disagree with the idea of health insurance, here in Australia at least. Few of the schemes cover naturopathic remedies (which I take), they never pay enough for all my eye problems (cause they're pre-existing), and the little guy and I don't fit (with most schemes) into any of the categories. I'd rather put my money in the bank and earn interest than pay into some scheme where I don't get anything back.

In writing news thanks to all those who filled out my Letters poll. It's given me some ideas, and I'll be working on it soon. For those waiting for Tenderfeet, (you know who you are), I'm really going to try and finish the next chapter. The muse is just stubborn on that one! I'll have plenty of time for thinking and writing on the plane because since today is Sunday - it's only one week till we leave for the States! Yay!!

I can't believe its come so soon! Both passports have finally turned up, I've booked all the accommodation, my Mum arrives Wednesday to mind the house and dog, I'm finally getting there. Of course I work up till Friday and the little guy has a swimming carnival, something at school (which I forget)and a party to go to - but we're nearly ready!

New York first, then [livejournal.com profile] squish_67s place, then Flan!! I really can't wait to meet all my flist who are going and to see the BDHs! After Flan we're doing all those holiday things you should do. Like going to Disneyland, Seaworld and San Diego Zoo. Hopefully I'll get to go to boring geek things like some museums, libraries and historical sites as well. Then home for Christmas and being broke for the next couple of years. But who cares? We're having an adventure!!

I think it's really cool you are into Naturopathic Medicine. I used to work a lab that did tests long those lines and we had 3-4 ND's on staff for test development and to answer questions. They were awesome people.

I'm excited about Flan as well. Finally. For the longest time I wasn't, but now I am. I just hope I get to go. My stepmother is really sick and there is a CHANCE I'll have to go home for a funeral instead of Flan. Won't know until we are right up on it, I fear. Keep a good thought.

Oh yes I really think Natural remedies have a big place in medicine, particularly for folks like me who are allergic to lots of chemical remedies.

I'm keeping good thoughts for you and your step-mum. *cuddles*

After one of my ferrets had surgery, which involved cutting open almost the entire length of him, he had to wear an E collar (http://dts.ystoretools.com/1298/images/250x1000/ecollar125cm.jpg). He was such a feisty little guy that the vet actually had to stitch it onto him to keep it on so he'd stay away from the incision O_o

I'm getting excited again for Flan as it's getting closer XD

Yes - this time the vet gave my dog one of those collars. He's so funny trying to navigate in it!

Can't wait to see you at Flan!!

That dog does not want you to go away and leave him with your mother! I wonder if you'll have to get a muzzle or somesuch for him. Poor puppy.

Huh, I would have thought Australia had socialized medicine.

I can hardly believe that you'll be flying out so soon! And then you'll be here! *frantically begins cleaning house* *gives up and decides to pay niece to help clean*

The vet gave him an Elizabethan collar http://dts.ystoretools.com/1298/images/250x1000/ecollar125cm.jpg and he's having big problems walking round in it!

We do have socialised medicine but the government encourages health fund membership to offset costs, even offering rebates. A couple of years back they made it sound like you had to join a private provider. http://www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/publishing.nsf/Content/private-1

LOL - Don't clean! You should see my place? *giggles*

Love the puppy face icon!

LOL, if he has an Elizabethan collar, you simply MUST read Shakespeare to him!

Don't clean?! OMG, you won't be able to find me!

(The icon was made by the fabulous monkey).

Well The complete works of Shakespeare never leaves the coffee table - so I could, but he would look at me! LOL
I took a photo of the collar and when I get it developed will post it for you!

Oh come on, your place can't be that bad!!

Love the fantabulous icon - isn't she talented?

I'm so not a dog person and every story about yours makes me even more determined in that decision.

I cannot beleive your trip is so close!

The more I hear about your dog, the more I like him. He's got personality aplenty, that's for sure. ;)

I'm totally with you on the Health Insurance thing. I don't have any cover either - you may as well flush your money down the toilet for all the good it does you.

*is envious of your Flan plans* I'm not a traveller in any sense of the word. I hope you have a great time. Just don't forget to report in and tell me all about it. :D

I'm sooo looking forward to this holiday - I really need it! I'll tell you all about it! *chortles* till you tell me to shut up

The dog, Rex, is a real personality. Though sometimes I wish he didn't have so much of one :)
