I'm a bit late this year!

This week is Banned Books Week in the US. People's ability to censor things for the most spurious of reasons continues to amaze me! One of the top 10 challenged books this year is 'And Tango makes three'! This is a children's story book based on a true and documented story about two male penguins who hatch an egg and then look after the baby. I've read this book at story-time and the kids always love it.

Check out the list of frequently challenged 20th century classics. I've read more than half of these and am still (relatively) sane, and only moderately depraved :D

I'm pretty sure I've done this before - but I can never resist book memes. Really it's just proof that I either I don't have a life or do have an addiction!!

The BBC allegedly believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books here. How do your reading habits stack up?Read more... )

Click on the link to read a librarian's sarcastic take on the 'new blockbuster' from James Patterson. I love the humour!

I hate the new blockbuster term btw. It's guarenteed to turn me off either purchasing or reading most books that are launched that way. I also roll my eyes at books that are reviewed on every breakfast show on the television, even though all and sundry come straight in and request them.

Being reviewed on these shows is a testament to the authors/publishers ability to market the merchandise, not necessarily to provide well writen prose of any description.

/end rant...
