Language or lack thereof

squish_67 and I were having a discussion about us both speaking English but not understanding each other; and it’s not just my accent either!!

So I thought I’d post a couple of links to some Australian usages that may be unfamiliar to English speakers from other countries.

Well do I remember the horror of my German flatmate at the then political parties’ slogan of “Keeping the Bastards honest.” She never could understand why nobody took offence at it….

That's hilarious!

There's always an amount of (semi-) good natured banter between the Aussies and the Poms (as you like to call us English - is is something to do with apples and rosy cheeks?!!). Which always gets the most fierce around the cricket...

But the amount of British people going to Australia for holidays and/or to emmigrate, you know we love you. And more people watch (is it Home and Away or Neighbours?) one of your exported soaps here than live in the whole of Australia. So there's something about the Australian way of life that we just love! Or maybe it's just the sun!! Anyway, to travel for 24 hours on a plane must be brutal - but my fellow countrymen still keep doing it.

I've been tracing my family tree in the net, and several of my ancestors moved to Australia. I've even found some who died out there - on my Dad's side of the family - in the late 1800's!

Okay, this is a weird sort of question, but I was wondering how I could get Firefly to my friend in Austrailia (she lives there after moving out of the states) because she feels really left out and really wants to see the show. So...any genius suggestions genius person??
