From today, more than 4,000 libraries across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be open to any member of the public no matter where they live, thanks to a new scheme introduced by top librarians.

I'm posting this because I know some of my flisters are from Ohio and because I think it's short sighted of legislators everywhere to do something like this. Libraries are one of those places that become more essential during an economic downturn - not less...

Ohio's libraries have been earmarked for the dustbins. The next biennium budget proposed by Governor Ted Strickland cuts the state's support for its public libraries in half, from nearly $460 million in 2009 to around $227 million for each of the next two years.( More info follows )
