At last! I have full internet back!

For the past two weeks since the cyclone the internet at home hasn't been working. I've been subsisting on a couple hours a day *staggers*, courtesy of the surf club's USB wireless internet. Finally the Telstra guy actually came to the house yesterday and put everything to rights. What's more, it was no fault of mine, my house, computer etc! It was the phone line and modem - so both were fixed at no cost to me!!! *bounces madly*

Our town is slowly recovering from the cyclone. There are trees down everywhere and the main park in town was decimated. It's so strange to see some places without trees. I'm still cleaning my yard and am at the stage of needing some chain saw mojo for tidying the big trees. I want to take a chain saw course, I figure it would be useful. But it takes 2 full days, so...not this time. Though I'm so annoyed at work, I'm thinking about it *grins*. By doing the course, I get my ticket and can actually be employed as a chain saw expert! Can you picture it???

I really, really want to join the Ship Olymics being run in the Star Trek fandom, but fear I couldn't hold up my end. I'm afraid I'd be the team member the team all talk about because I fail to deliver :(

It's 3 weeks until the LG and I are off to the Junior State Titles. What with floods and cyclones he hasn't done nearly enough training. But we've bought the air fare and booked the accommodation - so we're still going. I'm looking forward to some real waves however and am going to spend at least a couple of hours in the sea :D

ahhhhhh!

3 hours and 3 phone calls later the wireless network is actually working so we can have the phone, computer, xbox (so the LG can use his free month connection) and ipod all on together!

I was supposed to be writing my reel_startrek fic in that time. It's due on the 20th! *wibbles* Assuming I get it written, any of my Trek flisters want to read it through very late on the 19th?

Words can not describe how much I love the TOS episode Mirror Mirror. As a child I watched it so often I could recite it, and nothing much has changed :D

I adored the 'Mirror' episodes in DS9. MirrorKira was such an evil badass and Quark as a hero figure? Awesome! I have every Star Trek novel, in any incarnation, related to the Mirror 'Verse. There's a goodly amount of Mirror 'Verse fic related to the new movie. Do I read it? No I do not. Despite the fact there's a nice helping of Kirk/McCoy in this fic, I'm not even tempted. I have no idea why?

On a totally different subject:

Back in the days of the dim dark past (early 90s here) when the Internet was coming into it's own, there was one thing drummed into you when learning how to use it. Only use capital letters when necessary. If you typed all in capitals - you were shouting at people. It was frowned on. On one of the very early fan forums I was on, someone was banned for over-abuse of capital letters. Mind you I thought this was over-zealous to say the least, but I was in the minority.

Fast foward to today...Where some comms are so full of CAPSLOCK glee that it's hurtful to the eyes :)

WTF Telstra? This is the 4th time in 20 minutes that the internet has gone off. Considering the amount of money I pay for connection - this is unacceptable! I can't wait for the wireless tower thingy to be built near here.

I went to a writing workshop today and had a great time! There was some interesting content and I got to meet some new people. One of the things we did was watch this talk from Elizabeth Gilbert. Check it out.

The LG is passed out on the couch still in his football clothes *sigh*. He did well at the game today and scored his first try! Nothing will stop him now :)

We (my mother, the LG and me) are off on our annual 3 day holiday and have had great fun on the drive today, ending with a swim in the hotel pool.

When we booked in I was pleased to see there was an Internet service (in lots of places here, it's still not available), but less pleased to see that it wasn't free. :( Although I got the room at a discount (thanks to frequent flyer points etc.), I resent the fact that the caravan park down the road can have free WiFi, but here at the 4 1/2 star hotel I have to pay!!!! $10 a day! But being the internet junkie I am, (and enjoying the quiet part of the day) I paid up with much grumbling and signed on. And what did I find? I have a MB limit!!! No doubt I'll go over the limit pretty quickly...

There goes another hotel I won't be staying at again! I have a list :DD It encompasses such estoric things like ants in the room (a tropical hazzard); free (or any) internet, if I can get frequent flyer points, if there's a fridge in the room and countless small, nit-picky things!!!!!

grrrr

It's been one of those days.

The travel agent messed up my airfare stuff and now I'm unsure of the date I'm leaving. Which means I can't organise what I want to do when I get there.

This is the 3rd time I've logged in tonight. Every time I start something the dumb internet goes off. It's probably something to do with the wind and rain outside, but I'm trying to organise my trip!

Anyway if I disappear while talking to anyone tonight - please forgive me?????

But to end on a cheerful note - I've bought my photo op with Adam and autograph too!

Here I am at our annual conference and suffering Internet deprivation!

Despite being one of the (so they say) fastest growing cities in the SouthEast my accommodation has no Internet connections (They have hardly any powerpoints either I might add) and neither does the conference venue. I'm currently here at the library having snuck out at lunchtime to read my work/real life emails and take a quick glance at LJ!!

I can't wait till Wednesday when I'll be at my niece's house and have broadband access again! Have a good time till then and write lots of fic for me to catch up on!! :)
