I've been slowly doing up the little guy's room. I got the floor finished back early in July and finally! The bed, that I ordered in May, arrived at last! Yesterday...

Luckily I'm home for the last few days of a fortnight off, so I wasn't too put out to have to wait all day for the delivery guys to turn up. I was put out to find that the bed arrived in boxes and that I have to put it together. I can do it - but the point of buying the bed locally and from an actual furniture shop was so I didn't have to put it together.

The instructions are worse than Ikea hieroglyphics and not as extensive *sigh*. I really wanted to try working on fic today...

Be assured, you will have to look at photos of my renovations when they are finally finished! :D
bookaddict43: (riverwriting)
Please writers if you're writing about a particular show - find out how to spell the major character's names. Please for god's sake learn how to use apostrophes and the difference between to and too; the two(ha) words are quite different you know...

Yes instead of writing my various wips or writing my fics for the ficathons I've signed up for I've been reading fanfic :) I love it, but couldn't folks edit their stuff?

In other news - 5 weeks since my gas bottles started leaking, I'm still waiting for hot water. Having cold showers in winter is no fun, and I'm very grateful to my neighbour who lets us use her shower every day. We're quite a sight, walking up the street with our pjs, towels, soap and shampoo!!!!

My renovations in the little guy's room continue and the bed arrives next week. I'm feeling pretty proud of my efforts at laying the new floor and can't wait to see the finished product.

How's everyone else doing?
bookaddict43: (little guy)
After watching the little guy fall off his bed every night, I've decided to buy a double bed for his room.

Of course, to me, that means - time for a whole room change.

As well as the bed; I'm painting the old shelves and buying some new ones and am doing a new floor. The carpet is coming up and floating floorboards are going down...

Before the carpet comes up I have to move furniture, which means of course I have to clean out the cupboards, shelves and too many toy boxes!

So tonight we cleaned out the cupboard and got rid of all the stuff I've been storing. All the little guy's paintings (he was at daycare for 5 years before school), Easter egg baskets, craft objects, birthday cards - everything. We kept the report cards and a couple of drawings and everything else went into the bin.

And I'm sad - he's 10 and he's growing up :(
bookaddict43: (pyramids)
Well here we are sitting in the Yahoo cafe at Tokyo airport. Is it sad that I actually knew both where it was and how to find it? As usual I can:t find half the punctuation marks on the Japanese keyboard, so forgive the typing weirdness.

Anyway, we had an uneventful flight up from Cairns and reached the hotel just in time for the little guy to have a swim before bed. I forgot that even though the pool and gym are at the hotel I:d have to pay for their use, so that was a bit of a blow to my slight stopover budget. Otherwise we had a lovely stay and sleep-in and took a bus ride around the town near the airport. The scenery is much prettier this time around, with all the cherry blossom trees out in bloom and lots of flowers. The little guy is impressed with his first (remembered) visit to Japan and wants to come back for longer next time.

The next leg of the flight is 12 hours to Chicago and then it:s only a little way (relatively) to squish 67s!!! Yay! Hopefully we shall sleep on the plane and arrive with smiles on our faces...

Woot!

I found it!!!

The passport I mean. Or I should say - my niece's friend found it. They came round this morning to help me look for it and found it within 10 minutes! *face palm* I'm pleased to relate though that where it was found caused me to remember that a certain someone, who shall be dead when he gets home from school, was looking through my cupboards a couple of weeks back - and moved it!!!

This is a weight off my mind, it's so late I don't think I could have got a replacement in time before we leave. I need so many extra signatures and affadavits on official papers for the little guy, everything takes twice as long. Now I don't have to worry about it!!! *dances*

Thanks to all my flisters - who helped and reassured me. You rock! *cuddles extravagently*

The little guy wants me to download The Veronicas to his MP3 player *reels*!!! Worse still he also wants the soundtrack from High School Musical! *gulps*

What are they teaching him at that school? Am I in for a lifetime of totally banal pop music? God help us...

I downloaded AC/DC for him as a deterrent :) And of course since I refuse to buy songs online, most of his music is what I have on CD anyway. He knows every word of On the Drift from the Bedlam Bards *wipes brow*

The little guy in his mowing gear! He wanted to mow, but was put off by the grass hitting his legs. So on went the socks and eye protection and he mowed - for at least 10 minutes. But the grass hurt his legs *giggles*, so I had to take over...

I sat down tonight with the express intention of writing something, I didn't care what - just something.

Did I do it?

Nope.

Well I opened up the fic I owe [livejournal.com profile] ladytalon1 and wrote a couple of lines, but nothing much else. *pouts*

This is occuring too often for me. I have ideas and even the chapter mapped out in my head, but it isn't translating. I'm going to pout my way off to bed and hope I'm more successful tomorrow...

In other, better news; the little guy and I attended a swim-a-thon to raise money for the surf club this afternoon and acquitted ourselves very well.

*wibble*

It's the first day of the new school year today and it's the little guy's first day at the new school. *wibble* I hope he does ok.

We've moved from a small school of 30 students to one with 129! I know that doesn't sound a lot to most, but it's a big change for us and I hope he's going to fit in. I'll be anxious all day till I pick him up this afternoon...

In other news - I won [livejournal.com profile] ladytalon1's wicked mad skilz for both fiction and video in the latest Sweet Charity auction. Now I'm trying to think what to ask her for *rubs hands together in glee*.
bookaddict43: (little guy)
My legs are tired. I stood up for five hours straight today and they're feeling it! But we had a successful day so I guess it was worth it.

As some of you know - the little guy is mad keen on surf club.Read more... )

My only consolation is - considering the amount of walking I did, surely I've helped both my fitness and weightloss goals :DD

And tomorrow we've got to be on the beach at 9am for surf club *sigh*.

I'm sitting here with a heat pack on my leg and frying because it's about 90 degrees out there. Why you ask?

Because I have sciatica.

Also real life is bugging me - I have too many things to do and not enough time to spend talking to my friends(I missed [livejournal.com profile] ladytalon1 on MSN twice now *sobs*), writing fanfic, reading and doing nothing. Here follows a picture of a fairly regular Friday (yesterday) I'm mainly writing this down to see if I can improve on the rushed aspect of it all, so don't read it if you don't want to :DD...Read more... )

The little guy was very well behaved at the conference. He gets very spoilt by all the trade people who've known him since birth, but he was still good. He was very helpful too when I had sore eyes etc too and his reward was to go to the Zoo...

We had a great time at Australia Zoo, I was mucho impressed. I haven't been there since it was a reptile farm way back in the 70s. [livejournal.com profile] squish_67 wanted pictures of Australian Animals - so here they are in a slideshow with tigers included!! It's the first time I've made one - so hope it works :)

Yawn!

We've been to soccer today and I'm exhausted.

It's such a production! We left home at 6.15am and got home at 6.45pm. Both our teams won their pools, playing 3 games each and ended up having to play each other in the final. Sensible heads prevailed and they didn't play and shared the final trophy instead. I took a photo of our winning teams - it's not that great because it's from my camera - but here it is :-Read more... )

I suck at being the Tooth Fairy.

I've forgotten three days in a row to leave money for that oh so anticipated event - loosing a tooth!

These are the sort of things I'm hopeless at.

Tonight I must do it! Cross your fingers that I remember :)

Honestly the shit that's on television sometimes stuns the mind. The umpteenth incarnation of Big Brother, The Family guy and The Footy show *retch* just make me wonder how much banality people will accept.

Thank god for Inspector Rex! A long-time favourite of the little guy's. We watch religiously as Rex and his human counterparts solve all the crime in Vienna.

Yes Rex is a dog! A sort of mixture of Rin-tin-tin and The littlest Hobo he solves crimes, rescues children, takes on bad guys and has a great time stealing food! Tonight he broke down the barriers between some homeless children and the police, and then subsequently rescued the kids from a burning train carriage! What a dog :)

Not only are the story-lines good, we are also improving our language skills! We've been watching since he was 5 and at first I had to read all the subtitles to the little guy (paraphrasing hastily some of the more questionable parts), but now he can read most of them himself Yay! And can even recognise a good portion of the commonly used German phrases.

I find myself suddenly wanting to write a Rex fic - maybe I could team him with Jayne? They both bark, growl and have an obsession with food...

*hugs and dances with [livejournal.com profile] ladytalon1*!!!!

Her parcel arrived today and contained some wonderous things!!

At last I can watch all the episodes of Day Break and drool over Adam as Chad. I only saw 3 episodes last year when I was in the States and I've been dying to see the rest :) Now I have to wait till I get home to watch it *pouts and looks at clock*. Only 6 hours to go...

My wonderful friend also sent the first 5 episodes of Blood Ties which I can't wait to see and a wonderful "Let's Be Bad Guys" shirt.

The little guy and I had a fight about that shirt LOL! Since it has Jayne and his guns on the front, he wanted it. With a too adult look on his face he told me that "You're losing weight really good, but your top part is too big for that shirt." He gave me a consoling pat and will be pleased to find out he is right. He's going to be wearing that shirt with pride wherever he goes *sigh*.

My Firefly Companion : volume two has arrived as well and so has all 5 seasons of Highlander which I ordered for work. My geek girl cup runneth over :D

*swings ladyT around some more* Thank you so much!!!!

The cheery school newsletter informs me that it's only 8 days till the end of the term! Where did the last 9 weeks go? It's nearly the end of the second term and I'm still back at the beginning...

Of course I have been busy, but I haven't finished the things I wanted to or done half the stuff I planned :( My works in progress are still just that (and I want to do lots more fic), my garden is still overgrown, my car still needs servicing etc. etc.

But the little guy has got a very good report card - so all is right with the world! :D

Here's a couple of photos I took yesterday at the beach. I'm testing my phone's camera so they're not the best quality, but the little guy loves seeing himself on the net - so I'm posting them.

I'm feeling definitely mopish tonight.

I broke down and ordered The Firefly Companion Volume two. I was going to wait till I went to the US in December. But couldn't - so now I'm paying $49.95AUD ($41.40USD) plus postage since the closest place that had it is 1500kms away. It'd better be good...

Today/yesterday was the closing date for the story writing competition I was going to enter and I didn't send my entry. For the second year running *grrrr*

The little guy is growing again and having hormone attacks ie having hurt feelings over everything, yelling at everyone, etc and got sent home from school today...
