ladytalon1's prompt and is set in her (non)AU Day Break 'Verse An Internal Affair. It follows the events of Chapter 27. Prompt: late for work
Andrea looked at her watch as she ran up the stairs. She and Chad were going to have to get up earlier or stop having so much sex in the morning. This was the third time this week she was going to be late for work.
“Andrea!” Hopper shouted, stopping her just before she got to the door. “Wait up!”
“I’m late; the boss wants an update in half an hour.”
“Too bad,” Hopper scowled at her. “Rita has bruises all over her and she says you did it.”
Andrea shifted uncomfortably. “Did she tell you why?”
“I didn’t believe her,” he frowned. “But she was right. You hit her?”
“Look can’t we talk about this later? I’ve really got to do this update.”
Her partner shook his head. “You bet we’ll talk about it later. Hanging out with Shelten has really changed you.”
Andrea bit back her hasty reply and hurried to her desk to grab her notes.

What the hell was she supposed to tell Hopper? Andrea thought as she looked over the top of her cup at him. She was surprised Rita had said anything; but no doubt it was part of the other woman’s manipulative games.
“I didn’t hit her, just knocked her down and yelled a lot.” Andrea decided the truth was the best. “I will though, if she comes back again.” Quietly she continued her story, not hiding what either she or Rita had done, but not excusing it either. “Chad doesn’t want to hurt her and won’t fight back, but I won’t have her upsetting him. You’re my partner; we’re going to meet up sometimes. I want it to be friendly.”
Hopper looked down at the table. “Alright. I’ll make sure Rita doesn’t bother Chad again.” He glanced at her awkwardly. “He’s a lucky guy, having you to protect him.”
Andrea grinned. “It goes both ways you know. He does a pretty good job of protecting me.”
“I guess. But don’t you ever wonder what went on between them?”
“Sure,” Andrea shrugged. “But I bet Chad wonders the same about me and Eddie. We’ll tell each other things when we get to it.”
“You’ve got Eddie’s trial coming up haven’t you?” Hopper changed the topic.
“Yeah and that’s going to be a barrel of fun,” Andrea grimaced. “I got subpoenaed, so I’ve got to go.”
“Is Shelten going?”
Andrea smiled softly, remembering Chad’s vehement comments about the subpoena. “I can’t keep him away.”
“That’s good,” Brett smiled at her. He’d had his doubts about Shelten’s involvement with his partner. But it looked like the former IA hardass was doing the right thing by her.

Date: 2007-06-27 12:49 pm (UTC)How could you think this was boring? I loved it and it shall go in Memories next to your other Chadrea prompt fics... but you seriously have to write where Hopper finally finds out about Rita's....er...proclivities or lack thereof.
Love that The Chad's lovin' is making her late - now you need to write this again from his POV and have the SWAT guys teasing him :)
