“…my Daddy sure tanned my hide that time.” Kaylee finished her story as Simon entered the kitchen.

“Your father slapped you?” he asked, horrified.

Kaylee smiled comfortingly. “He didn’t beat me you know. I just got smacked now and then when I was too naughty.”

“My Mama now,” the Captain interrupted. “She favoured the fly-swatter for her smackings.”

“Did you get many sir?”

“More than Kaylee did I’ll bet,” Mal smirked.

“Well my Ma…” Jayne started.

Simon sat and listened to fond reminiscences of rough-and-tumble childhoods that no core bred child would survive.

He felt more left out than ever.

This was so cute! I can just imagine Simon's look of horror at all these tales of childhood punishment - and LOL @ Jayne starting up his stories... I bet he got spanked lots of times when he was a widdle boy :D

I'm sure Jayne was spanked lots and lots and yes poor Simon. He would be horrified at those tales and feel left out though at the experiences behind them.
