Dear River, That horrible woman I bet she werent nice when she made those advances neither. Im all for sexing where and with who you like it but noone should ever be forced to do something that they dont like. Dont forget to tell Nara everything that was said and done she wont be shocked you know and can help. I hope it wont scare you off sexing because it can be wonderful you know. I wont tell Simon I know how he gets about such things hes awfully hidebound. I do miss him so and cant wait to see him and all of you again. The fish sound beautiful what colour are they? I bet theyre all peaceful swimming to and fro what sort of experiments are you gonna try? Im getting better every day and went to the store with Mattie yesterday. The cool rooms werent working properly and I was glad that I could fix them for him. I fixed a few other things while I was there and had a lovely time. The teacher at the school asked me to come and give a talk about being a mechanic. I was so surprised and a bit nervous talking in public and all. But the kids were nice and listened real good I ended up enjoying it. Ellen is getting ready for the winter and Im helping as I can its strange getting used to the seasons again. No, Tonia wasn’t nice to me and I think that was confused me most. I didn’t understand her approaches because of it. When I did comprehend I was horrified Kaylee. Perhaps I’m old fashioned, but I would expect a person, be they man or woman, to pay some attention to me first, before asking for sexual favours. Tonia didn’t, she just grabbed and expected. Even Simon conducted his romance with more finesse.
As you suggested, I told Inara all and she is helping me to understand the ways of the ‘Verse. The Captain and Jayne think that she prettifies things too much and are also educating me. I am more confused than ever.
I’ve sent some drawings of the fish to Ellen and you will see how beautiful they are. They were all colours of the rainbow Kaylee and brightened the cargo hold very much. Fifi spent a lot of time with her nose pressed to the glass, watching their movements. I like to think she was studying them. Jayne says it’s more likely she was planning how to catch them. But I think it unlikely, she is smart, but not that smart. Since we have delivered the fish, she and I will have to wait till the next shipment to try our experiments. My secret plans are still secret, but you'll be the first to know what I'm doing.
Your girl is well, all the wiring is up to date and Jayne is obsessive about your list. The new mechanic is old, smokes everywhere on board and is dull and unclean. Although he keeps the engine running, the room itself is more untidy than I’ve ever seen it. The Captain has spoken to him about his habits to no effect. I don’t know how much longer he will last. The lion and I removed all your things from the engine room and have stored them in your bunk to await your return.
Simon is looking more like his old self every day and everyone else is well.

My head whirls and all is confusion. I’m sorry for the delay in writing to you. The Reavers have made their presence felt.
We had done another fish delivery and were on our way to collect lumber when we heard rumours of them. We spent so long avoiding them on our route Kaylee, the atmosphere on board was very tense. Every time one of the ships got close to us, I heard the voices again and it was worse at the lumber camp. The Reavers had already laid waste, the anguish and anger there was almost overwhelming.
The Captain made me stay on board with Jayne and Simon, but the voices still confused and frightened me and I had to be sedated. I don’t like that Kaylee; it reminds me of The Academy, and being confused I fought the idea. I’m so ashamed.
The others salvaged what they could and we were on our way again, only to be quarantined at the Breton skyplex. We’re kept at close quarters here and don’t get shore leave often. To stave off boredom I have replaced all the wiring around the thrusters, I hope that meets with your approval?
The Captain and Inara are well and happy. They have decided to; as the Captain puts it, do the decent thing. Since neither has a family living, they want to hold the celebration at Ellen’s. This news has made everyone a lot happier and has taken our minds off the Reavers.
I think your idea of taking Mattie and Ellen flying is wonderful. I’ll broach the subject with Jayne and see what he thinks. Mattie’s present was lovely and I wrote and told him so! Now that is the appropriate way to be courted.
I loved my pretty necklace and wear it now as I write. Fifi looks very doglike in her harness and drew a lot of attention when I walked her at the skyplex.

The one she has is so old Im sure its not warm enough for her. Take Zoë or Nara with you to buy it they’ll know the best sort. Your Ma and Mattie have got the vault ready.
