Dear River, How are you and everyone? I already miss Serenity and all of you so much isnt that silly? Ive written to Simon and Jayne too but Im relying on you for news you know what theyre like. Simon doesn’t always notice whats going on and Jayne only tells you what he wants you to know. Ellen and Mattie are looking after me so good theyre so kind to me. I cant do much yet this letter is about all I can manage so far. Im glad Ive got the dance to think and gossip about with Ellen. Wasnt it shiny? Everyone around here is still talking about it they enjoyed it so much. You did like it didnt you I didnt get much chance to ask before the operation? Slow dancing with Simon was all kinds of heavenly for me and I loved the Captain and Jayne picking me up like they did. I think Ellen was a bit amazed at Jayne partnering us all she says weve been a good influence on him. She said he never used to dance hed either get into a fight or grab the nearest girl and disappear with her. I had lots of other questions but Im getting kinda tired now so Ill say goodbye and talk to you soon Love Kaylee

I hope you’re feeling better when this reaches you. You and our games keep me grounded, I miss them. Fifi looks for you everywhere and the boobish one is thinking of you.
All here are well. We just finished our job on Hawkins Moon. No-one was injured and we were paid, it’s still unsettling when that happens.
I did enjoy the dance; everyone here did, including the Captain. Even though he says he didn’t. I giggle like a girl and remind him how he cuddled Inara and she whispers things in his ear, and he blushes. Zoë laughs and teases him in her steady voice; it’s almost like old times.
Kaylee, I not only enjoyed the dance – I loved it! Before the blue hands and confusion I was too young to attend many dances and none would have been like this one. I was danced with twenty-two times! Not with twenty-two different men though. Of course Simon danced with me, the Captain and Jayne too, and Mattie danced with me five times. I felt like my feet had wings. No-one was frightened of me or thought me odd, it was delightful. Do you think when we return there might be another one?
The new mechanic is nervous of me and avoids my presence. But he minds the engine well and that’s all that matters. With Fifi’s help, I check the wiring according to your schedule and all is well there.
We have another job coming soon and we are on our way there now. I will write again soon.

Dear River, Im doing well Ellen says. We check Simons list he left and Im progressing the way he wanted. Im still pretty weak and cant do the fixing Ellen arranged yet so shes teaching me her knots. Its really hard but Im enjoying learning I figure its good to have another skill just in case. While we work we tell each other stories and Mattie comes and sits with me everyday. Im not lonely at all. So you liked dancing with Mattie did you? He liked dancing with you and talks about it a lot. Hes nice River and would make a good first boyfriend for you. Don’t laugh every girl needs a special boy or girlfriend at least once in their life he could be yours. Listen to me matchmaking isnt it silly? But I do like to see folks happy you know and a girl needs to learn about sexing too. Mattie would be good for that cause though hes older he aint had much experience. Everyone here is planning another dance that might be your opportunity. Jayne wrote and he doesnt like Brad. I know you said he keeps the engine turning Im just anxious is all. I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to write. The amount of mucus was staggering. I was so miserable and some of the others are still.
The lion was left to care for everyone and amid much roaring did so well. Fifi followed him everywhere I think she’s adopted him.
Simon and the Captain are still very sick, I shouldn’t have teased. They’re very weak.
Brad has left the ship. In Inara’s words he wasn’t suited to life in the black. In Jayne’s words he was no use in a fight and a rutting whiner as well. The truth is Kaylee, we all miss you and probably weren’t very welcoming to him at all. Nevertheless we needed a temporary mechanic and Zoë filled the position.
He does well with the engine and helped with the last job, but I don’t like him. He’s not nice to my Fifi and throws things at her. It’s outrageous. Jayne and Zoë had to prevent me from killing him; perhaps I’m not as sane as I should be after all.
I’ve been considering your suggestion about boyfriends, and think it has merit. I did like Mattie. He has brains, rhythm and good looks. Do you think Mattie would like a moonbrain? I would not be a good catch.
Inara has arranged another job for us. We will be smuggling dresses! I’ll take captures so you can see them.

Ellen is real busy canning peaches. She worked hard feeding the pickers next door and they gave her fruit as payment. Im eating like a real Core person here all the fresh fruit and vegetables even meat sometimes. Thats one thing I dont really miss bout Serenity all the protein. Hows Simon is he getting better? I kicked him Kaylee, in his reproductive organs, and felt satisfaction when doing so. What sort of person does that make me? Zoë says I was just protecting what’s mine, that my reaction is normal. Do you think so?
In any event our nemesis has left the boat and we are without a mechanic again. The lion follows your list to the letter so the Captain has decided to wait for awhile before searching for another.
The dresses were beautiful and elegant. I’m sending some captures for you and Ellen. The job went well though Jayne complained incessantly about his weaponless condition. Inara got quite impatient. I thought she only got that way with the Captain.
The Captain is up and about again, but Simon isn’t. His condition has worsened and he has pneumonia. The money we earned on the dress caper bought medicine for him, but he needs rest. We are to go to Haven for a few weeks. I hope it helps. I’ve never seen Simon so ill and weak, it frightens me.
I apologise my friend for this sad, mixed up letter. I was glad to hear you are improving.
