A month

It's just over a month since my brother died and I've been thinking of him a bit today. Mostly remembering some of the funny things, because the man had fun and could make a joke or laugh over anything...

He loved poetry and reading and would discuss for hours his favourite Australian poets. I think he would have appreciated the memorial poem my brother-in-law read at the wake and sent to me today.

I'm Free by Linda Jo Jackson

don't grieve for me, for now i'm free,
i'm following the path God lay for me.
i took his hand when i heard his call,
i turned my back and left it all.

i could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work, to play.
tasks left undone must stay that way,
i've found that peace at the end of the day.

although my parting has left a void,
fill it with remerbered joy.
a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
ah yes, these things too i will miss.

be not burdened with times of sorrow,
i wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
my life's been full, i savoured much,
good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, he set me free

I've found that anniversaries of the loss of a loved one can be times of deep reflection and emotion. Your brother must have been a very special individual to have touched so many so deeply and it sounds like the world is a better place for his time upon it.
