Just rambling
I can see! I can see! *dances*
After nearly three months of viruses, running eyes, blurred vision and playing soccer in my glasses, my eyes have settled down and I can see again!
I wore my new lenses for the whole day yesterday and they went well. They lasted an afternoon at the beach and everything. The real test is today at work. Looking at the computer and sitting in the air conditioning – cross your fingers for me!!!
We had a beautiful afternoon at the beach yesterday afternoon.
The little guy practised hard at Surf Club and I did the mother thing and watched and helped out. Next week is the first major carnival of the year and he’s all agog. He’s been practising madly since February. He got second place to the same little guy twice at the last carnival, and his whole goal is to beat this child. I keep telling him that performing well and representing his club are definitely the best things – but he’s eight and determined. We’ll just have to wait and see how he goes, I suppose and hope like hell he’s gracious in either defeat or victory!!
For two years at least I have been agitating for a coffee machine at work. It seemed to me an easy way to raise a little money and offer an additional service to our customers and since we share a space with TAFE (a community college) I saw a ready made market going begging.
Really I’d like a full-blown coffee shop but we don’t have the space for that so I set my sights lower….
Our first pitfall was the cost of a machine. Buying one outright would never get past the powers that be, so I looked into leasing. I did, or rather
bookishtype did, the figures and it appeared we would make a profit. But it’s a *gasp* new idea and Finance were worried our projected figures weren’t accurate so that founded.
We’ve since been offered a free machine on a trial basis. If we host the machine we get 5% of the takings. Now this interested me and the powers that be. Free and earning money? Woo hoo.
But TAFE have decided that we can’t put the machine in the foyer! No reason given. Bunch of dickheads!!
So now I’m scratching for a space to put it in the library and if I find it then have to wait for the proposal to go through all the official channels and hope they accept it.
All because I thought our customers might like a cup of coffee occasionally, *sigh*.
Wish me luck!
It's 47 days till I leave for the States! OMG!! New York first. Any recommendations? Then I'm driving I think to
squish_67's place and then Flan!! I really can't wait.

You are a maverick with your coffee ideas, hope you can get it worked out. But then you'll need to find a way to offer pastries with it!

My eyes are still fine *crosses fingers* and the child remains totally gung ho!!

Good to know burecracy is not exclusive to the US.
Luck to your son!

I know we'd do well with the coffee - I just have to convince everyone else!!

Lenses as in glasses or contacts? *got all sorts of confused* I miss my contacts.
I'm going to be the dumb blonde here. You and
New York as in the City? If you don't have folks on your flist who live in NY, I could help ya on that one. (My man was born/raised there...) What's the little guy into? What would you be wanting to see? How long will you have there?

Yeah
And yes we played soccer against each other a couple of weeks back. I'm looking forward to the next match - because our team will so totally cream their's!!
It's New York city I'm going to and we're staying at the YHA...so far that's as far as I've got. We'll probably be there 5 nights I think.

Huh. See, when I first saw the two of you I wondered strange non-LJ-y stuff. Then I put it far from my mind. Then the soccer happened. And I got confuzzled. *recalls supreme blonde moment*
A boss who loves books, Firefly, soccer and does the writing thing? Yeah, sounds very strict. *giggles* Very strict here means my perfect boss.
Okay. Five-ish days. Ya didn't say what stuff interests the two of you... I mean, my man can guess. *giggles* We're a pair of children ourselves and that wouldn't be too hard. But maybe your little guy has some things he's into that would be different.

I really am awfully strict *nods head*, or like to think so...
I know we're going to FAO Schwarz....Though he had to promise not to ask for anything *grins*. I bet that will last!! He likes bugs, animals, all things active and is pretty good at museums and things.
Do they do that ice-skating in the middle of the city thing you always see in the movies? He'd love that...
I of course (dork) want to visit the New York Public Library, museums, bookshops, The Empire State building and go to a show...
we're quite adventurous really - see above icon and are open to suggestions

Strict. Unless you can beat out that one Senior Drill I had...yeah, didn't think so. *makes silly dorky face*
Okay. I'll run this by my man and see what he has to say. If you don't hear back from me in a week, poke me. Most likely my mind is not at it's best right now. So really, don't be afraid to remind me. *makes crazy face*
