squish_67, a lyric one this time. I know she expected Jayne/Kaylee, and so did I...but this is where the muse took me. Prompt “When I was young I had me a cowboy; he weren’t much to look at just a free rambling man”
Simon straightened his back and stretched, his eye falling on Jayne’s unsanitary cowboy hat left sitting on the bench. Gingerly he picked it up and his eyes glazed over for a moment as he reminisced.
As a child he’d always been partial to cowboy stories. The people in those stories were so far removed from his style of life that they seemed exotic.
As he grew up and the pressure of study intensified, needing an outlet, he’d expanded his interest in cowboys to a hobby.
He became a collector. Any item no matter how small related to cowboys and their lifestyle. Possessed of unlimited funds he’d pursued his hobby obsessively
Of course none of his much admired collection remained now – he’d sold most of it to raise funds for River’s rescue.
Smiling to himself, Simon remembered his second year at the MecAid when the hospital had held a costume ball. For once he’d been persuaded to attend and he’d decided to go as a cowboy.
That’s where he’d met Michael. Dressed from head to toe in cowboy regalia, Simon’s eyes had been irresistibly drawn to him. The man wasn’t handsome, but his bearing and dress had instant appeal; and although their relationship had only lasted a few months, Simon still looked back at that time as the happiest he’d lived.
Looking around cautiously, he placed Jayne’s hat squarely on his head and turned to look at himself in the cabinet door.
“Not a bad look Doc?” Jayne’s voice drawled from the doorway a glint in his eye.
Simon might be relatively inexperienced but he recognised that glint – it denoted interest. Something he hadn’t expected from Jayne. “I was always partial to cowboys.” He purred, watching for Jayne’s reaction.
“I got me some more cowboy gear down in my bunk.” Jayne was certainly quick on the uptake when it came to anything resembling sex. “Wanna come and try it out?”
“Yes,” Simon answered. “On one condition.”
“And that would be?” Jayne was amused.
Simon pushed the hat more firmly on his head. “It’s my understanding,” he looked up flirtatiously at Jayne from under the brim. “That the one wearing the hat gets to do the riding.”

Date: 2006-08-25 02:06 pm (UTC)Someone really ought to write a J/K story for that gorramn prompt, I did Mal/Inara, Squish did Zoe/Cowboy, Jayneswoman did Rayne and you did Simon/Jayne. Lol I think its funny no one actually wrote a J/k one.
