It's time for my summer time whining...
My yard is currently somewhat overgrown.
I haven't been keeping up very well with the gardening over the last couple of months. I had some weird problem with my eyes that entailed taking tablets that warned about susceptibility to sunlight. Susceptibility wasn't quite right - I burned like a burning thing if in the sun for longer than five minutes. Since I live in the tropics I felt very vampirish and didn't spend much time in the sunlight if I could help it.
So the yard was already overgrown and now the wet season is here and I think its better described as a jungle. I'll need to slash the grass before using a mower and god knows what I will have to do to the trees :)
The birds love it, the dog loves it, and today I found a snake loving it. I went out to get the mail and there perched on the fence and going to strike was a snake! Some kind of Taipan (i.e. venomous) I think, but I didn't stop to look and didn't get the mail either.
Once upon a time you could ring the fire brigade and they'd come take the snakes away (you're not supposed to kill them it's illegal and besides that I'm not good with snakes!), but they don't do that anymore. I'll have to ring my friend tomorrow and we'll put on boots and long pants and go snake hunting... *ugh* Boots, socks, long pants and long sleeved shirt in 35 (95) degree weather - we'll last about 5 minutes tops :)
So I came inside to freak out about snakey and found that the frogs are back in the toilet again! Now I like frogs, and am happy to see that the cane toads haven't taken over completely, but I do not like them being in the toilet!
For those of you who don't live in tropical northern Australia; the frogs come through the pipes into the house. Ick! Periodically the LG will catch them for me (usually when they've jumped out onto the bathroom floor), and relocate them outside. But they come back! They're homing frogs! They've been here so long that there's one who recognises the toilet brush when I wave it at him and he retreats down the s-bend where I can't get the bastard :D
To top it off there's a spider the size of a dinner plate (a slight exaggeration) also in the bathroom. *sigh* I don't spray insect spray while I'm in the house, I'm allergic to it. The LG is away camping till Monday - it's time to look for my shoes so I can pound the spider to dust!
Honestly sometimes I wonder if nature is all it's cracked up to be...

I couldn't do with so much wildlife, all the creepy crawlies. Give me suburban life.
