Do you realise I didn't go anywhere in 2009? By anywhere, I mean not overseas. The LG and I did visit the Atherton Tablelands with my mum, and we did go to Brisbane for the Exhibition and make further surf club related trips. But I didn't travel anywhere else! This is an unusual situation for me, who whether I have money or not, I go somewhere.

This year I won't be doing much either. We're getting a new library/gallery built this year, so I have to be around to go to endless meetings about that. I was thinking of a genuine white Christmas at the end of the year, taking my mum (she'll be 85 and it might be her last chance to go OS anyway) and the LG to Canada and stay at a ski resort or soemthing. But they don't want to go *pouts*. I suppose too I have to spend money on the house. I ripped up the carpet in December and haven't made a floor covering decision yet :D

Next year, 2011, we're actually moving into the new building. So I guess I should be there for the settling in and cementing of procedures and stuff.

So 2012 it is. I will have a lot of Long Service Leave by then. Currently I have 45 days and that doesn't count my regular Annual leave.

The LG and I have been talking the London Olympics with attached travel elsewhere perhaps. Of course sooner or later he's going to realise he'll either miss football or surf club if we go and might change his mind, but I'm not worrying about that right now. I've checked out the London Olympics page a couple of times, but it's still a WIP and isn't particularly helpful.

I'd like to know, and maybe my British flisters can help me here, which places in London are closest to where the games are being held? I figure if I start looking now, I might get some accommodation before the prices go up.

How can they not want to go to Canada? I want to go to Canada. I want to be Canadian. Your family's crazy. :P

I was looking at the London 2012 site, and it seems like the venues are scattered all over the city. So really, considering how great the public transport is, you could pretty much stay anywhere. I personally prefer staying around Victoria station, though I wouldn't recommend it if anybody has trouble with stairs, 'cuz there ain't no lifts.

I think the main stadium's being built out Greenwich way? I know that my train into London goes in near to it...let me have a quick poke around and find out where the stadium and village are being built.

Nope, my bad! Main stadium (for athletics etc) is being constructed in Stratford (not Stratford Upon Avon, but also known as Stratford East) so I'd be looking for accomodation around there? It's the end of the Jubilee line as far as the tube is concerned, so that runs straight into Waterloo, putting the South Bank area into consideration for places to stay as well. It's also on the main railway line, and goes into Liverpool Street, but accomodation near Liverpool Street is likely to be expensive because it's the middle of the business district.

Hope that helps!

It's for UK residents only *pouts*.

We have to register our interest through our own countries' Olympics committee. I'm going to have to watch their website! 'Cause I'm going - and I'm gonna have a good holiday!!

Is it? Argh, sorry. We haven't tried to register for tickets - honestly, we'll mostly be keeping clear of London for Olympic fortnight. But if you happen to want to see a medieval city, it would be fab to see you both over Norwich way! (We have a castle and everything. And windy streets with timber buildings and they filmed the Stardust market scenes here...)

I can't help you with your London question, sadly, just wanted to say: If you're planning to do your attached travel elsewhere to Germany, come to Munich! You'd be very welcome, and I'd be happy to function as your tour guide. :) (Or Heidelberg. Or Berlin. After that, my proficiency on tourist-heavy German cities ends.)
