My copy of Total Recall has arrived, so now I can get down to watching it a few times and hopefully writing the [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin fic. It's interesting to note that my memory of the film was pretty good and I was a bit appalled to realise how many of the one-liners I can still quote!

Along with my copy of TR, I also bought the first two series of Robin of Sherwood. I was enamoured of this show back in the eighties and watched every episode. Did anyone else (those of you who weren't tiny children :D) watch it? It had all the ingredients to push my buttons - a heavy dose of mythos, lots of sword fights, the sheriff's voice (I could listen to him forever) and a bit of snark to leaven the drama.

What TV did you watch in the 80s? Things I can remember - Blake's 7, endless repeats of Star Trek (TOS), Dr Who, Centennial, Miami Vice, to name but a few...

The LG has made the State Titles for surf club, so in April we're off down south for the carnival. Since the titles this year are not in a large town, I spent all day yesterday attempting to find accommodation. I was almost reduced to having to borrow a tent and camp (internetless!) for five days when the last place I rang said they'd had eight cancellations! Thank god people overbook! The price did not suit at $110 a night - but beggars can't be choosers. Hopefully one of the LG's mates will end up bunking with us and we can share the cost. Also since the titles aren't in a large town, there's no place to fly to from here, so I'm in for a nine hour drive both before and after the carnival. Ick!

Sport is a good thing for children, but it is an expensive proposition when they're good at it. This year I'm hoping to remember to put in my application for assistance for children who have to travel more than 200kms to a State Title. I forgot last year, and that trip was even more expensive than this one will probably be :) Said assistance is only $200, and I have to actually spend it first to get it - but every little bit counts!
