My copy of Total Recall has arrived, so now I can get down to watching it a few times and hopefully writing the [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin fic. It's interesting to note that my memory of the film was pretty good and I was a bit appalled to realise how many of the one-liners I can still quote!

Along with my copy of TR, I also bought the first two series of Robin of Sherwood. I was enamoured of this show back in the eighties and watched every episode. Did anyone else (those of you who weren't tiny children :D) watch it? It had all the ingredients to push my buttons - a heavy dose of mythos, lots of sword fights, the sheriff's voice (I could listen to him forever) and a bit of snark to leaven the drama.

What TV did you watch in the 80s? Things I can remember - Blake's 7, endless repeats of Star Trek (TOS), Dr Who, Centennial, Miami Vice, to name but a few...

The LG has made the State Titles for surf club, so in April we're off down south for the carnival. Since the titles this year are not in a large town, I spent all day yesterday attempting to find accommodation. I was almost reduced to having to borrow a tent and camp (internetless!) for five days when the last place I rang said they'd had eight cancellations! Thank god people overbook! The price did not suit at $110 a night - but beggars can't be choosers. Hopefully one of the LG's mates will end up bunking with us and we can share the cost. Also since the titles aren't in a large town, there's no place to fly to from here, so I'm in for a nine hour drive both before and after the carnival. Ick!

Sport is a good thing for children, but it is an expensive proposition when they're good at it. This year I'm hoping to remember to put in my application for assistance for children who have to travel more than 200kms to a State Title. I forgot last year, and that trip was even more expensive than this one will probably be :) Said assistance is only $200, and I have to actually spend it first to get it - but every little bit counts!

You know, it's so funny that you brought up 80's TV shows, because my friend and I were just having this discussion the other day. :)

I was a big TOS fan myself, but my absolute fave was Beauty and the Beast, with Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton. Did you guys get that one in Oz?

Oh!! 80's TV shows:
M*A*S*H, MacGyver, Knight Rider, 21 Jump Street, the A-Team, Magnum PI, Quantum Leap, SeaQuest
(although some of those may have spilled into the 90s? - I don't recall)

And I still clung to my Scooby Doo in the early days of the decade. LOL!

Sheriff/Gisburne. It had to be.

What I actually WROTE most recently was a crossover with RoS and A Knight's Tale. Few years ago now but that was fun.

The Sheriff/Gisburn definitely! I just finished watching the episode where they had to have a bath together because of bee stings :)

Ahahaha. Those boys, seriously. (and that is one MASSIVE bath, too.)

Though, with Robin and Gisburne flailing around in the mud together, I could be convinced...

I used to love Robin of Sherwood. At one point it clashed with Doctor Who, which was a bit of a disaster in pre-video days and we chose to watch RoS rather than Doctor Who.

Other 80s shows? Thinks back. Um...The Professionals, Blake's 7, Edge of Darkness, ST:TNG, Quantum Leap (which just qualifies).

80s was a blur but yes, I watched and loved Robin of Sherwood. I thought it was the first one that really captured the reality of the mythos.

Loved Blake 7 until the last episode and then my love turned to hate and I refused to ever watch repeats again. Ever!

Since I don't remember the shows, I'm taking what other people wrote below to make my list. Beauty and the Beast was wonderful. Loved Quantum Leap and Dr. Who but I'd been watching it forever. Battlestar Galactica? Was that in the 80s? So long ago.

The last ep of Blakes7 cut that's for sure *cuddles you* BB was awesome - I loved Vincent. I think Battlestar was in the 70s, but it was a fav too. I'll have to re-watch it :D
