I'm a bit late this year!

This week is Banned Books Week in the US. People's ability to censor things for the most spurious of reasons continues to amaze me! One of the top 10 challenged books this year is 'And Tango makes three'! This is a children's story book based on a true and documented story about two male penguins who hatch an egg and then look after the baby. I've read this book at story-time and the kids always love it.

Check out the list of frequently challenged 20th century classics. I've read more than half of these and am still (relatively) sane, and only moderately depraved :D

I am not sure if I read your post right, but I feel it necessary to point out that in the U.S., literature cannot be censored. Private businesses may refuse to sell it and schools may not require their reading, but all books of all types are available to all adults. Many of the works on that list have also been challenged in the UK and Australia.

Now, I will agree, that frequently people reason for objecting to a particular book are completely ridiculous.
