Health report

I got my blood tests back today and it appears that I have a deficiency of B12 and Iron. Although both deficiencies are low, the B12 is very low. The doctor thinks that the B12 deficiency is the one that caused me to collapse at the football.

So now I know and I've got 3 months till the next test to improve my numbers. Since I don't eat a lot (hardly any) of dairy products or eggs, this is what my doctor wants me to target first. Let's hope it improves my fatigue levels and maybe my writing muse will come back! Though I'm determined not to put back on the 20 kilos (44lbs) I lost though :)

Well done for losing all that weight but you look after yourself, you hear. Do as the doc says.

::hugs you::

oh, cripes, that's what my grandfather had - B12 deficiency is known as pernicious anaemia, this side of the world. Congrats on the weight loss but do step up the dairy! (and consider iron supplements, we want you healthy!)

Can you take vitamins to help?

Yuck!

I also have had really low B12, which contributed to a very public and embarrassing passing out at one point (the first hint that something might be wrong!). I actually do eat dairy products and eggs (a lot), so I ended up taking a B12 supplement, and it made a huge difference. And it was small and chewable, so not annoying to take.

I hope you feel better soon.

*pokes you* Stress Tabs! They are a multi-B vitamin supplement I take that also includes iron, depends on what variety you buy. I love them, keeps me from getting anemic too. (I was borderline anemic once due to poor diet and again after the boys were born)

And, WHOO! Go You! I didn't know you had lost 20 kilos. That's about what I'd like to work off, if I ever get exercising that is... :)

Since my gastric bypass in 2007, I don't absorb many nutrients from my food and have to take a number of nutritional suppliments, including iron and B-12. Puritan's Pride sells a wonderful tiny sublingual tab that dissolves under your tongue and actually tastes good. You can also get B-12 as drops.

Hurray for you with the weight loss - I bet you look fabulous!

*hugs* I'm glad they know what it is. Eats lots of spinach and red meat if you can.

Congrats on the weight loss and for figuring out the B12/Iron thing. Can't you just take a supplement and not change your eating habits? My friend had a B12 deficiency and she took sublingual tablets she got at GNC (I don't know the equivalent in your neck of the woods).
