In an attempt to improve my icon making skills I've joined [livejournal.com profile] 10x10variated. One lot of 10 I have to make is icons using a popular trend as the following says.

Every icon must use one popular icon trend that is hot at the time. This changes frequently but it will be easy since you see these trends everywhere. (i.e. when these rules were written the trends were dirty textures, Action Jackson font, bright hue and saturation coloring, blurry images, etc.) -Trends are done over and over, but it's still nice to know you can do them. Don't be afraid to copy! ;)

So tell me what are the current trends? I have no notion what they are :)

Smaller images and with a lot of negative space. Larger cropping. Images blended as a lighten layer.

Icons with the contrast heightened to make the blues more cyan in nature and the reds a little orange, color leaching and unexpected cropping.

Examples: LOTR Icons (http://community.livejournal.com/pildas/12175.html); Multi-Fandom Post (http://zimona.livejournal.com/58724.html); Another Multi-Fandom Post (http://community.livejournal.com/soul_flowers/44395.html)
