A travel tale
Jan. 27th, 2008 11:02 pmIt being my RDO (Rostered day off) this Friday, my Mum decided a trip to the Atherton Tablelands, would be a nice birthday present. So we decided to do a food and waterfall tour over Friday and Saturday and here's some pictures for
guinny_hamilton and anyone else who wants to see...
First we went to the Mungalli Dairy, a bio-dynamic dairy, where we tasted some great cheeses and yogurts. Not being a yogurt person I was surprised how much these more naturally made ones tasted and ended up buying quite a few. I also bought some organic milk. You know, the old-fashioned kind with the cream on top? Yummmmm. I broke my diet and had it on my cereal the next morning - it wowed the little guy too. We'll be buying it more often I think.
While up at the dairy we visited the nearby Mungalli Falls. Since it was pelting rain, we'll have to go back sometime to see the platypus and have a swim. But it was gorgeous.

On the way down the mountain the little guy had his first experience of cows all over the road. I don't know which was funnier, his delight in the scene, or the dumb cows' inability to get out of the way :) He hasn't stopped talking about it yet!
Saturday morning we were off to the Gallo Cheese and Chocolate factory at Malanda. We had a great time tasting chocolate and cheese and watching the dairy in operation.
On the way to our next destination we stopped at the Curtin fig for a walk in the rainforest.
The top of the canopy
The bottom of the tree, complete with little guy and Grandma
Next we moved on to Yungaburra and had a walk around the markets and bought lychees and more plants (as if I need them).
From there we went to Coffee works and tasted coffee, more chocolate and some very delicious liquers.

There was so much coffee to taste that Mum (in the background) got a bit overwhelmed. They were all very yummy though and I brought a few different varieties home.
Since we wanted to visit some waterfalls on the way home I unfortunately didn't get to visit any of the wineries or distilleries which abound *pouts*. I'll just have to visit again :)
First was Millaa Millaa falls.
The creek leading from the falls
The falls themselves
Our next stop was Zilla Falls and some gorgeous butterflies.

Our last stop before the long drive home was at Elinjaa Falls where we had a swim. The little guy didn't want to go in on his own, so I went too, clothes and all. I got out under the waterfall and he didn't get in! *shakes fist* Fortunately the photo he took of me is too blurry to post - but I'm in the background of this one. You can see my shoulders!!

All in all we had a lovely time and I'm going back again so I can visit those wineries! *nods*

Date: 2008-01-28 01:30 pm (UTC)Ah! Okay. That's what I thought. Something about Forrest Beach made me think you were in that area. I think it was another website or something. So I figured you were (are!) close to Ingham. Nifty Map.
*snuggles you more* :D
