“I ain’t missin’ ya or anything but it’s kinda empty here and I figured maybe you’d like some company.”
“No,” Jayne’s companion winced. “That’s no good. You can’t tell her you aren’t missing her and then ask for company.”
“Why not?”
“Because women don’t operate that way.”
“It’s been a whole gorramn day, I gotta do something!”
“You apologise.”
“Apologise?” Jayne’s voice rose.
“Zoe once moved out for a week.”
A week without that smiley, dimply presence? Jayne swallowed and headed straight for the engine room and Kaylee.
“I miss ya,” he shuffled his feet. “And I’m sorry.”
