Comments: This fic is answer to [livejournal.com profile] ladytalon1's prompt and is set in her (non)AU Day Break 'Verse, taking place just before her story Spring cleaning. Prompt: Hopper/Rita POV, running into Chadrea somewhere. It's not quite a POV - but I hope it fits the prompt :)

“That way,” Hopper yelled pointing to the left.

“I know that,” Andrea snapped wrenching the wheel round. “Let me concentrate ok?”

Her eyes fixed on the car they were chasing; she stomped on the accelerator harder. “All I wanted was some answers.”

“Yeah, yeah I know. But when do these dirt bags ever co-operate?” Brett held onto the door handle as the car rocked around another corner.

Andrea didn’t answer, concentrating on the car ahead of them instead. “Hey what the…?” she asked as the suspect suddenly started to reverse at top speed straight at them.

She jerked the wheel, intent on swerving around him when out of the corner of her eye she spied a car coming through the intersection. “Hold on!” she yelled at her partner, as she spun the wheel in the opposite direction.

Despite her efforts the oncoming car clipped the bumper of theirs’; sending it straight into the path of the reversing car. They collided with a sickening crunch and Andrea’s head hit the steering wheel with a bang.

************

Opening her eyes, Andrea saw a familiar face hovering over her. “Rita?” her head was pounding and everything was blurry. “I didn’t mean to hit you so hard,” she said groggily.

“That was a while ago now,” Rita soothed. “We both said and did things we shouldn’t have. Right now I need you to rest ok?”

“What happened?” she tried to sit up as her memory flooded back. “Is Hopper alright?”

Rita eased her back against the pillow and indicated the door where Brett was hovering. “He’s fine, just a few bumps and scratches. You came off the worst. You’ve got a broken leg and mild concussion.”

“A broken leg? I’m supposed to be going dancing with Chad tomorrow night.”

“You won’t be dancing for a few weeks, I’m afraid.”

Andrea tried to sit up again, “What’s the time? I should have met Chad an hour ago; he’s going to be frantic.”

“Someone rang him, don’t worry,” Rita laid her hand on Andrea’s shoulder. “I’ll go and see if they caught him if you like.”

The other woman gave her a weary nod and subsided against the pillow again.

“Keep an eye on her for me?” Rita asked as she passed Brett on her way to the nurses station.

“I won’t have to,” he nodded down the hallway and she turned to see Chad, followed by the rest of the SWAT team, come striding down the hall.

“Is she…?” he came to a stop beside them, anxiety plain on his face.

“She’s broken her leg, but she’s fine,” Rita reassured him. “She still has to get her leg plastered, so be gentle with her please.”

“On your watch was it Hopper?” Chad elbowed him on the way through the door. “I see you look after your partners the same as ever.”

“You…” Brett’s lunge forward was stopped by Rita’s hand on his arm and a growl from one of the team members.

“That’s the worry talking,” her hand was insistent. “Don’t let him get to you."

Chad shrugged off his anger with Hopper and had forgotten him and Rita the moment he walked through the door. All he could see was Andrea, lying motionless on the bed, IV in her arm.

“Andy?” Chad’s voice was hoarse with worry.

“Hey Sarge,” shakily she held out her arms to him.

Resisting his desire to crush her to his chest, Chad let her hug him close as his arms enveloped her in a gentle cuddle. He rested his chin on her hair for awhile and then pulled back to look her over. “God I was worried about you,” he murmured.

“He really does care about her,” Rita remarked watching Chad smooth Andrea’s hair gently as he talked to her. She hadn’t really believed it till now.

“Wonders will never cease,” Brett replied sourly, still smarting from the elbow to his ribs.

“No he does,” Rita studied the couple in front of them. Chad seemed easier with Andrea than he ever had been with her; and Andrea was more relaxed than Rita had ever seen her. “I think they’re meant for each other.”
