ladytalon1's prompt and is set in her (non)AU Day Break 'Verse and takes place sometime during her story An Internal Affair. The prompt was Chad/Andrea: slap fight
“Hey Andrea,” Rita’s soft voice had her looking up from her desk. The other woman didn’t often come to the precinct, she was uncomfortable there and preferred to ring Hopper about a million times a day.
“Hi Rita, Hopper’s out on a lead but won’t be long.”
“It wasn’t him I wanted to talk to,” Rita smiled at her in a way that had Andrea sitting up straight. “I had a phone call today that interested me a lot.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, oh,” Rita shook her head in bemusement. “The person who called said that you and Chad were going out?”
“So?”
“So, are you?” Rita’s voice rose. “Is he the guy you were talking about on the phone a couple of weeks back?”
“Yes,” Andrea couldn’t see any reason not to answer. The whole SWAT team were aware of how much she and Chad were together and soon it’d be all over the precinct. “Look let’s take this somewhere a bit more private,” she suggested, noticing the interested looks they were getting.
Rita stood up, but kept talking. “Why on earth would you go out with him? You see the way he treats Hopper and everyone else around him.”
Chad treated her fine, got on well with the SWAT guys and so what if he was a hard ass at work anyway? “I like him.”
“He’s my husband!” Rita snapped.
“Your ex-husband and I bet he’s glad of it too!”
“He’s probably just doing you to get a rise out of Hopper.”
“At least he gets to enjoy it while he’s doing it.” Andrea snarled back, remembering Chad’s carefully hidden surprise at some of the things she did.
“Why you…” Rita replied furiously and taking Andrea by surprise slapped her so hard that her head rocked back. Reacting instinctively she shot out a fist and caught the other woman on the chin, knocking her to the ground.
“Andy,” Chad’s voice growled in her ear as he grasped her elbow and yanked her into the nearest office. “What the hell?”
“She slapped me and I reacted. I didn’t mean to hit her that hard,” Andrea bit her lip ruefully. “And what are you doing here anyway?”
“Haight called me,” Chad turned her head gently and looked at the reddening mark on her face. “Let’s go get something on that.”
“Don’t you want to check on Rita?” Andrea knew that she’d hit Rita harder because of her implication about Chad’s motives. When she was feeling insecure, it was what she feared herself.
“She’s got plenty of help and it isn’t her I care about,” his blue eyes bored into hers and his fingers trailed over her cheek. “You know that right?
“Yes Sarge,” she murmured. “I just get worried sometimes.”
“Well don’t,” Chad led her from the room, arm still draped over her shoulders. “With a punch like that I’d be scared not to.”
