Part five
Jayne heard ‘em comin’ way before he saw them.
He’d finished his workout, cleaned every one of his guns and knives. And still Mal and Kaylee weren’t back. They’d been gone too long, he was gettin’ all twitchy waitin’. Early on Zoë had come down to the cargo bay to see what he was up to.
“Captain will be back when he’s good and ready.” She gave him a half-way friendly glance and handed him a bottle of Kaylee’s home made hooch. “Relax .”
Jayne rolled his eyes at that. He knew that the Captain would look after Kaylee. He trusted Mal lots more than Mal trusted him. But the man attracted trouble like a magnet attracted nails ‘n’ ya never knew which way he was gonna jump.
When the Captain and Kaylee arrived at the ramp he was leanin’ against the wall waitin’ for them. The pair of them were fallin’ down drunk.
“Jayne my man!” the captain exclaimed “think we’re going to need some help here.” Buddha help him Mal was havin’ a happy drunk.
“Don’t think I or Kaylee are going to make it to our bunks,” the Captain grinned at him all friendly like. Kaylee was leanin’ against his shoulder gigglin’ softly, more asleep than awake. “Take Kaylee first, will you.”
The girl smiled hazily at him, brown eyes all soft, as he reluctantly grasped her good arm to hold her up. “Jayne,” she plastered her body against his, standin’ on tiptoe and flingin’ her arms ‘bout his neck. Ow the ruttin’ cast hurt like hell. “How come you’re so big?”
She wouldn’t be doin’ that if she weren’t drunk, so no way was he gonna pay attention to how good her slim but womanly body felt against his.
“Dunno Kaylee.” He gently pulled her away from him, guiding her stumblin’ steps toward her bunk. With her injured arm and the state the girl was in she weren’t ever goin’ to get down the gorram ladder, he was gonna have to help her all the way. He hoisted her up over his shoulder and climbed down the ladder, Kaylee gigglin’ all sleepy like against his back.
Hastily Jayne put Kaylee down on her own feet and turned thankfully to the ladder. As still gigglin’ she fell on the bed any which ways sprawlin’ uncomfortably.
“Tuck me in?” Kaylee’s voice was all manner of invitin’. “Please Jayne.”
He never could resist the way she said please. Jayne turned and his brain froze.
Kaylee had fallen suddenly asleep, the skirt of her dress pulled right up to her stomach givin’ him a view of soft creamy flesh. He could see the scar from when the fed shot her, and her cunning belly button. His gaze drifted downwards and saw cute little panties covered with gorram teddy bears ‘n’ sunflowers!
Ai ya. Teddy bears ‘n’ sunflowers; he groaned, shouldn’t be lookin’ at Kaylee like that.
Jayne jerked the skirt down coverin’ up the temptin’ sight. Carefully he moved her head and legs into a more comfortable position and liftin’ her plastered arm placed it on a pillow. He covered her up with a blanket and stood watchin’ for a while to make sure she were goin’ to stay peaceful.
Sighin’ he went back to get the captain. Ought to leave the man to sleep in the cargo bay, he thought rebelliously, lettin’ Kaylee get all liquored up like that.
Ai ya = damn
