The knife flashed in front of his eyes coming to rest on his throat.

Heavy, solid against his flesh, the blade stung slightly and a rough voice growled, “touch somethin’ of mine and ya die, that’s my kind of justice.”

His eyes pleaded with the trembling girl, her arms shielding the child he hadn’t noticed. They were obviously the ‘something’ his accuser was talking about.

The girl widened her eyes at the man behind him and he feared his time had come.

Instead he was pushed roughly away, knife leaving his throat. “Lucky for you my girl don’t like violence.”
