“What ya makin’, crazy girl?” Jayne’s silent appearance startled and displeased River. Why hadn’t she heard him?
Her surreptitious experiment would be ruined if he informed on her. Craftily she smiled “I’m constructing a weapon.”
“I can see that, just wanna know, why a bow and arrow?”
“Much skill is required in both construction and execution.” The genius explained.
“And in avoidin’ Mal ‘n’ yer brother,” suggested the mercenary with the ghost of a smile.
Surprised at the smile, River nodded. “Avoidance is necessary. Will you assist?”
“Pull the wool over their eyes?” Jayne’s grin expanded. “You bet I will.”
