Romance titles again!

Yes it's cataloguing the romance titles again time! In addition to the usual titles, because it's now October and nearly Christmas, we have the beginning of the mawkishly winsome titles...

Searching for Santa

Rescued by the magic of Christmas

Italian doctor, sleigh-bell bride - I kept imagining her as one of those ornaments on the tree. You know a girl shape on top that blouses into a bell shape on the bottom?

Dr Devereaux's proposal

Children's doctor, meant to be wife

Blind date with the boss

The millionaire's chosen bride - There he is! The rich guy you'll never meet again

Sicilian husband, unexpected baby

Rafael's suitable bride

I'll leave you with an excerpt from Rafael's suitable bride...

Billionaire Rafael Rocchi always has a woman in his bed, but never in his heart. Now he needs a suitable wife…
When he meets Cristina, she is an ideal candidate: her plain-Jane looks mean she won’t be tempted to stray – and she’s a virgin!
Cristina is devastated to learn that Rafael’s proposal was one of convenience. But whilst Rafael makes it clear their marriage isn’t based on love, he intends for it to be authentic in every other respect...

Please shoot me now? I don't know what about this blurb infuriates me most!!!!!!!

Mmmm, I wants me a Santa Clause. And Wow. It is the 21st century, right? Thanks for reminding me again way I steer clear from that section.

I just want someone who'll clean the house! The guys on the covers of these books look like they wouldn't know how :D

Also love that icon!

Some of these sound like they're translated from another language, and badly. Like Children's doctor, meant to be wife; is that really the actual title? *g*

[identity profile] bookaddict43.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the actual title *nods*. And believe it or not - it's not the worst!

[identity profile] elsibet34.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
And I keep wondering, with all the *cough* originality in their titles, how could these books NOT be wonderful. *pulls tongue forcibly back out of cheek*

*giggles* The Christmas ones are always particularly bad!

That blurb reads like badfic that doesn't know it's bad.

It so does! We wouldn't read it if it appeared on our flists!

The Italianess of everyone in these is odd.

Italian = exotic. God knows why?

[identity profile] prehistoric-sea.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
This is purely speculative, but: I feel like Italians were the last group of Europeans to "become white" in the US--maybe the appeal is that they're exotic, but still (barely) "white"?

Either way, it's disturbing.

*grins* The baby was beamed in *nods* and hence a cross-over was born...

I've heard that sort of thing happens quite often in Sicily.

Lest you think that only M&B have gawdawful titles, check out this blog by an American romance writer who's published by Harlequin. O...M...G... *headdesk* And the last couple of sentences? Make me ask "Why? Oh, god, why?!"

Edited for html failure. *headdesk*

[identity profile] lvs2read.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
And? I really, totally fail. She's not American. And is published by Harlequin Mills & Boon.

Still, my last point stands. In the meantime, I think I'll just go crawl into that corner over there and continue to whimper.
