Strange what Firefly leads you to...
Nov. 18th, 2007 08:07 pmI was watching Shindig again, as one does, and was all kinds of amused at Mal's totally inept duelling methods.
Of course this led to thoughts of how much I love sword fight movies...
My love of sword fight movies ranges from Errol Flynn & Basil Rathbone to Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel in the Duellists and back again. I've seen them all and love even the bad ones. I could safely say that I could, and would, watch anything with a sword fight in it...
Some of my all-time favourites are:- "The Court Jester", Danny Kaye and Basil Rathbone (it's so funny and a great sword fight too); "The Princess Bride" (of course), who could forget the sword fights in that?; "Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon"; "Highlander" , the 1st movie and the series; "The three musketeers", 1970s version and the movie depicted above *points at icon*. Can you name it?
I could go on and on and on...but I won't :) instead I'll leave you with two sword fights from the opposite ends of the spectrum, but no less wonderful for that :D
Scaramouche - Stewart Granger and Mel Ferrer showcase the art.
Jet li in Fearless, which combines two of my loves - ie. Swordfights and martial arts :D The ending is a bit bloody so don't watch if that upsets you...
