“You didn’t tell me you were married,” Casey looked up from his meal, aware he’d been too quiet. His one rule about sex was to not have it with women who were married.
“I’m not now.”
“Divorced?”
She shook her head. “Widowed.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be. He died before I found out about the other woman. So there would’ve been a divorce.”
John regarded the woman across from him and mentally goggled. Who’d want to cheat on that? “He must’ve been blind,” he said.
“Thanks. But it gave me more of a perspective about men and their lies,”
Fran watched him carefully. “Like you working at Buy More? Come on John, that’s not you.”
“No it isn’t. But I don’t need you saying it out loud.”
“So I was right, you do have a job in Washington?”
“Sometimes,” John was uncomfortable telling her even that much.
“I won’t say anything then, even though you looked like you wanted to strangle me,” Fran remarked.
“I did,” John reached over the table and played with a stray curl. “But now I want to play.”
Fran considered the heat in his eyes and possessive hand in her hair. “Playing would be nice,” she agreed.
