Title: The getting of wisdom
Fandom: Hawaii Five-0
Characters: Danny, Joe White
Rating: G
Word count: 518
Beta: Beta'ed by the gorgeous lvs2read
Comment: A tag to episode 2.06 because I thought it was a bit much Joe laying the guilt trip a bit thick. Danny gives Joe a lecture.

<dw-cut>~~~~~~

Joe trudged wearily up the walk. He was looking forward to just sitting and not thinking. Maybe a beer would come into the equation, and some mindless television watching. Anything to forget the day he’d had.

“Where do you get off…?”

The unexpected voice behind him had Joe turning quickly, but he relaxed as he saw Danny Williams leaning against the door jamb. Maybe he was getting old. First Wo Fat snuck up on him and now Danny?

While Joe appreciated Danny’s detective instincts and his professionalism, he hadn’t attributed any kind of stealth abilities to the man. But that wasn’t the point right now. “What?” he asked as he tried to remember whether he’d ever told Danny where he was living.

“Where do you get off telling Steve he’s responsible for that old man’s death?”

“I said wewere responsible.” Joe shook his head in bemusement at Danny’s apparent knowledge. “How do you…?”

“Do you think he actually listened to that? Do you?” Danny was off and ranting. But it wasn’t the ranting that Joe had observed with Steve. There was no humor and very little softness in the man’s eyes right now. He was glaring at Joe, finger already pointing. His body was coiled and tense and Joe was suddenly a lot more wary of Steve’s partner than he had been before.

“I thought you knew him. If you really did, you’d know he feels guilty about everything and worries all the time he’s not doing the right thing. And of course I know what’s going on! Did you think it was a secret? Are you forgetting I was investigating John McGarrett even before Steve was? Who do you think was there when Steve was going through that box? Me, Chin and Kono, that’s who! We’ve been with him every step of the way and don’t load unnecessary guilt trips on his shoulders if we can help it.”

Danny paused and thrust his face closer to Joe’s. “While I appreciate your help when Steve was on the run, I don’t appreciate what you’re doing to him now. If you know what his father was up to. If you even have any idea; you tell him now. Don’t leave him guessing and worrying. Stop turning him back into some repressed soldier. And stop trying to cut us, his friends, out of things. We want what’s best for him. I’m starting to wonder about you.”

“Danny,” Joe held up a placating hand. “You…”

“Need to calm down?” Danny questioned. “I do not need to calm down. I need for you to stop lying to Steve and to start treating him like the son you call him. If you can’t do that – then leave. No more stalling evidence, no more guilt trips. I’m not standing by any longer and letting you call the shots. So get used to it buddy.”

He whirled and stomped to the door delivering his parting shot over his shoulder. “Call him up now! Make things better!”

Joe snapped to attention involuntarily and stared at the slammed door for a moment before pulling out his phone…

~~~~~</dw-cut>
comments
His lips are as irresistible as the rest of his body and you taste and taste as much as you can.
You need to savour this and imprint it on your memory because you know he's not here for good. He'll leave if Gracie needs him and you would never stop him. Never.
Danny's commitment to Grace, to his family, is one of the many things you love about him. You can't deny it hits all your buttons and it's why you won't beg him to stay when the time comes.
So you carefully lock away every memory of him and keep kissing and kissing, tasting and inhaling against the time your life is empty again.
~~~~~

comments

I suddenly realised that I can't cross-post from LJ at the moment. So here's the first of 2 H5-0 fics

Title: Places of the heart
Fandom: Hawaii Five-0
Characters: Steve/Danny, pre-slash
Rating: PG
Word count: 410
Comments: I wrote something! It's un-betaed and brief, but I wrote it and hope you like it.

~~~~~~~
Before he’d gone on his first mission one of the training sergeants had given him a piece of advice. “Find your special place,” the guy said. “A memory or place you love and go there when things get too rough. It helps if you’re captured or in trouble. You’ll be grounded and can think better and faster. It could save your life.”
He’d thought it a load of BS at the time. They’d been trained and drilled in every aspect of contact with the enemy and how to cope with it. Besides how could that work? Day dreaming wouldn’t save his or anyone else’s life.
But the first time he’d been incarcerated he’d dreamt of home. It was just like he was there, back in the happy days, back before his mother…went. The sun was setting as he and Mary surfed and ran on the beach, reds and golds adorning the sky. He could hear the soothing surf in the background and his mother calling them for dinner as his dad pulled up in the driveway. He and Mary raced across the grass and into the house and mom yelled at them to wash their hands. It was perfect…
He’d been to that place a lot over the years. Consciously thought about it; willed it to appear. When injured and in hospital, imprisoned or captured, it was his go to place. The image had given him strength and at times helped him to remain sane, and he’d fully expected it to appear again here in the prison.
Instead he got Danny. He saw Danny in the car, hands waving in agitated semaphore and voice raised; Danny in the office, brow furrowed in concentration as he waded through reports; Danny and Grace and Steve sitting having dinner on the lanai; Danny’s voice calling him and Grace to dinner as they played in the waves under the setting sun. He and Danny in their bed surrounded by love, comfort and safety. He was the stronger for it, but was puzzled and unsure. It was all he could do not to reach out to the real Danny when he appeared on visits and when he got out, it was worse.
But he beat down the urges, locked them away and resolved to be patient. Because the first image of his family, though long past, was true. So maybe the new image, his new family, his reason for waiting; might come true someday soon.
~~~~~~~

comments

I'm still going with the Big Bang fic. I'm sure my artist and the mod are getting sick of my lateness.

But my bad luck and fuzzy brain are continuing. This week I managed to forget I had the board strapped to my roof racks and ran into the carport roof. My car is a mess, the roof racks are totaled and the only good thing was the LG's board actually emerged intact.

The fuzzy brain has intensified this week due to me forgetting to renew my pills and I've forgotten all sorts of things I should have done. But...

I'm nearly finished praise the lord! Now just to get over yesterday's soccer and huge drive to the surf carnival, and today's 10 hours on the beach and I'll be writing and posting (cross your fingers) tomorrow night. I'll be late but finished - and I hope the fics alright :D

comments
